Fireflies from Titan

96% Watercolor, 2% White Acrylic, and 2% Colored Pencils
Approximate Time: 6 hours maybe? I worked on this off and on this week.

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL WHO VOTED IN THE POLL! The votes were pretty even, except Saturn was ahead by one vote! So Saturn will be uploaded this week. However for the longest time this week Mars didnt get a vote (till maybe a few days ago). Sooooo because she was left out for so long, she will be the next Senshi Princess Project for NEXT Sunday (August 24th).

I wasn't sure if I was going to get this picture done in time for my Sunday deadline (it has to be done by the afternoon so I can take a picture of it in natural lighting), but I somehow managed to get it done in time. :3 I'm still not sure how I feel about "My Version of Titan Castle", considering it's based off of the symbol for Saturn with a ring around it. >_> I'll try to be more unique with the 3 other castles I have to make up for this senshi project series. XD

When I started this picture, I realized that planet saturn was going to stick out like a sore thumb if I didnt put something else that was yellow in the picture. Since Hotaru in Sailor Moon Supers loved stained glass lamps, and Hotaru in Japanese means firefly, I decided to add firefiles! PROBLEM SOLVED!

I had lots of fun with the complementary color scheme for this picture.  For those who are thinking "What the heck are complementary colors?!" they are basically two colors that fall on opposite sides of the color wheel (theworkingwardrobe.com/wp-cont…. In my painting classes, my teachers taught that complementary colors tend to "fight" each other for dominance if they are the same vibrance/strength. So by making the purple darker (heavier/stronger) and the yellow lighter (less heavy/weaker), it pushed the purple into the background, and the yellow fireflies forward. Which helped make the glowyness seem more brilliant.

Another useful feature of complementary colors, is that when they are mixed they make unique shades of brown. Which seems silly to most artists (why would you want brown?!), but it's SUPER useful when trying to dull down colors a little bit to make a unique shade. :3
